Project 1 : experiencing space

In the first assignment, we are required to work in a group of 3 - 4 to explore issues of spatial poetics through simple design exercises. We are required to propose a scheme of Spatial Translation in the form of semi-open architecture by using two to three modifying elements of architecture.

Project 1 (a): precedent studies

Task : select one precedent study for each selected modifying element, analyse how the element(s) was employed in architecture in order to create spatial poetics and experiences.

Requirements :

2 x A3 Precedent Studies (1 panel for each selected modifying element) that includes diagrams, images and annotations illustrating the analysis of the selected precedent.

Project 1 (b): spatial translation

Task: design one design scheme of spatial translation with selected modifying elements from project 1(a)

Requirements :

min. 4 x A3 for the Spatial Translation that includes floor plan(s), section(s), elevation(s), perspective images of poetic spaces for the design scheme and a design write-up.

Reflection

The beginning of Studio III was a bit chaotic for us as we only have 3 weeks to complete both Project 1A & 1B which were group projects. As we only have 12 people in our tutorial group, we could only have 3 members per group. In this project we were to use computer software for the design and render which was very new to us at that point, so many hours went figuring out and learning the software, but overall it was ok and I think we did a pretty good job together for Project 1.
